Ross searches for new town manager

Rob Braulik’s office in Ross looks out onto tree-lined streets, near a creek and a small-town setting. He’s trading all that in for a city neighboring an oil refinery and shipping ports. The Ross town manager for the past three years, Braulik is leaving town at the end of March to take the post of city manager in Martinez, the Contra Costa County seat. Braulik has already been officially hired in Martinez. His starting salary is estimated at $200,000 annually. The Ross Town Council at its Feb. 12 meeting began discussions regarding finding Braulik’s replacement. Mayor Elizabeth Brekhus suggested the Town Council would seek an interim town manager until a permanent hire can be found. “We certainly wish [Braulik] well in his new endeavor,” Brekhus wrote in a letter to the town. “Meanwhile, the Council will be working with [Braulik] to ensure there is no interruption to Town services.” Ross is working on a series of projects, including construction to improve bridges and roadways subject to damage from extreme flooding. “I’ll stay for a little while and help as much as I can to ensure a smooth transition,” Braulik said. The expectations for Braulik are pretty much the same in Ross and Martinez, he said. “There’s a high demand [in Ross] for good services,” Braulik said. “and in Martinez as well. Martinez has a robust recreation board, while Marin County values its open space. Ross backs right up to a big, open space. I’m aware of the issues and there are similarities that I can take to Martinez.” By Derek Wilson David N.
