Run every street in San Answlmo

Home News Marin snapshot: Couple vow to travel every street in Marin on foot or bike By: Jennifer Upshaw Saturday, May 9, 2009 – 12:01 a.m. Kira Swaim gives her husband, David, a high-five in Ross. To promote a healthy lifestyle, the couple plans to walk, run or bike every street in Marin. Hoping to live a more healthy lifestyle and gather know-how about Marin to better serve clients, Kira Swaim, 37, co-owner of the San Anselmo-based real estate company Tam Realty, and her husband have pledged to walk, bike or stroll every street in Marin. Originally from Los Altos, the University of California at Los Angeles communications and business major and mother of two toddlers worked for more than 10 years in public relations and marketing in San Francisco and on the peninsula for companies such as Skyy Vodka, Torani Italian syrups and Kimpton Hotels before founding Tam Realty with her husband, David. She will be blogging about traveling Marin on foot at www.tamrealty.com. Q: How did you get into the real estate business? A: After meeting my husband and deciding to start a family we wanted a more flexible lifestyle. We were both working crazy hours and wanted more time to spend with our families. David had been in real estate and investing for over 20 years and I’d always loved real estate and remodeling and looking at new homes. Q: What inspired you to travel every street in Marin? A: When we decided to move our office to San Anselmo we wanted to be unique and be different and David came up with the idea of driving every street, starting with San Anselmo. On a run I thought instead of driving every street, why not run every street? It gives us an opportunity to really get to know the nuances of each neighborhood. Q: Where have you already been and where are you headed next? A: My first run was Ross Common through Kentfield and up Woodland (Avenue), which is a very hilly street and where I came up with the idea. From there I’ve run all around downtown San Anselmo, the majority of the streets of Ross and all along the Sir Francis Drake corridor in San Anselmo leading to the beginning of Fairfax. I want to run more of Fairfax. Q: What do you expect to learn that will help you professionally? A: Learning the ins and outs of each neighborhood … knowing intimately every house that’s on the market, not just where they’re located. Visualizing every aspect of the house as I run by it. Q: What will you get out of it personally? A: A runner’s high. The ability to multitask and stay healthy and have some alone and family time.
