Taxpayers are encouraged to pay early to avoid penalties. Payments sent by mail must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service on or before December 10. Second installments are due April 10, 2016. Both installments may be paid with the first installment. The Tax Collector mailed 91,967 tax bills on September 30. The 2015-2016 tax roll totals $921,741,382.28 compared with $850,735,978 the previous fiscal year. Parcel tax exemption information, including exemptions for seniors, is available at www.marincounty.org/propertytaxexemptions. Eligibility for exemptions is administered and determined by each taxing district. Tax payments can be made online at www.marincounty.org/taxbillonline or paid by phone at (800) 985-7277. Taxpayers can call the Tax Collector at (415) 473-6133 for billing information and general customer service. An express payment drop box will be located under the Civic Center’s southern archway on Peter Behr Drive during regular business hoursDecember 9 and 10. The Tax Collector’s Office hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays with an extension to 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 10.
