(Photo by Matt McCourtney) Anne Lamott, the Marin author known for her narrative nonfiction books on life and faith and novels about people trying to navigate their respective journeys, is selling her Fairfax home for a listing price of $1.199 million. Lamott, 63, has lived at the home at 20 Hickory Road for about 10 years. Lamott is moving to a larger home down the street in order to create a “family compound” with more space for her son, grandson, dogs and extended family members. “Anne wrote five books in this house of skylights, had four dogs over the years, helped raised her grandson here from 3 days old, and taught him and all of his friends to swim in the backyard,” Now it is time for her to move on — but only six houses away. The 1,658-square-foot, single-level home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, multiple skylights, hardwood floors and a detached garage that could that could be used as an office, game room or pool house. Lamott spent years updating the home, including improving the solar-heated pool as well as the large open kitchen with breakfast room. Lamott in 1993 published her narrative nonfiction book on being a first-time single mom, “Operating Instructions.” She followed in 1994 with “Bird by Bird,” a nonfiction book on the writing life. For the next decade, most of her subsequent seven nonfiction books took a more spiritual bent, focusing on questions of faith, grace and prayer. Also, between 1980 and 2010, she wrote seven novels. Lamott was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1985. She was inducted into the California Hall of Fame in 2010. An open house will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
