Who is David Swaim?
I guess one could say real estate has been in my blood all my life. At 16, I performed a lot split on my family property and built a cash flowing rental (which I still own). At 20, after graduating from Cal State University Sacramento with a B. A. in Business Administration, I bought my first home, remodeled it and sold it years later for a nice profit. At 23, I became a licensed agent and started selling and developing property throughout Northern California. To date, I’ve personally owned and or developed over 25 properties and have represented clients in hundreds of transactions. Yea, I’d say real estate is in my blood.
I was very close to my mother, Erma Swaim, who instilled in me at a very young age that there were no limits. I could do whatever I wanted with my life. However, she did have some unbreakable rules for success in life – never stop learning (learn something new every day), be honest at all costs and tell the truth no matter what. Be involved, “if you’re not involved and willing to stand up for what you believe in then you are not entitled to have an opinion” she would say. Be grateful. Smile even when you don’t feel like it — “nobody wants to be around a grouch”. Be kind to others unless someone tries to bully you, then handle yourself accordingly. And of course drink lots of milk. Funny, but I’ve reached back on these words of wisdom a lot over my lifetime and for the most part I think these words ring true in how I try to live my life and run my business.
Sports, sports and more sports have always been a big part of who I am and also in my blood. I’m a huge 49er fan, San Francisco Giants fan, Warriors and Sacramento Kings fan. I’ve even been known to watch the San Jose Sharks if nothing else is on. Now that my playing days are over I have moved on to ownership as I own many franchises, fantasy that is, and actively play in multiple leagues.
And above all else, I have my family, my amazing wife and business partner Kira, our two beautiful little girls, Mina and Coda, our yellow lab, Maya, and the crazy Tom cat, Drake. As, without them, all the success in the world would be meaningless.
I could go on and on about myself but one thing I’m really working on is listening more and talking less :-). So, now that you know a bit about me, tell me about you and how I can help you in the world of real estate.
