About the Artists
Amy Jones
I grew up in Marin County and discovered oil painting in high school at Marin Academy. I loved the freedom and expression even way back then, and my very first oil painting of our family dog, Bo, greets us in our shed. I majored in Art at UCLA but during my first quarter freshman year decided that lugging my art portfolio to and from the dorm was too much of a hassle and foolishly changed my major to History. I followed my seven siblings into a career in financial services after college, never painting again for 30 years.
During the pandemic, my brother dropped off his old easel and oil paints and I started dabbling in online art classes. I retired in the spring of 2022, and have been painting every day since. Painting is both a relief and a release, and brings joyful purpose. I look for unexpected combinations of light and shadow and try to bring a sense of warmth to the canvas. It's been a long, circuitous road back to those early learnings from my beloved Art teacher at Marin Academy and I am so very happy I took this detour.
